The Hungarian language version of HISTORY2 launched on 7 January 2020, however, It turns out that the channel will be closing on 4 January 2021, which is a few days before its first anniversary. To find out more, CRT asked the company that represents HISTORY’s channel brands in Hungary, Tematik-Kábel.
According to Tematik-Kábel, “2020 has been a historic year for HISTORY. The brand’s main channel HISTORY has grown to be Hungary’s No. 1 factual channel in Q3, while HISTORY2 was launched on Magyar Telekom. HISTORY produced its best results to date during the past couple of months with a share of over 1%, and its shows reached more than 1 million viewers in the commercial demographic between July and September.”
Tematik-Kábel also explained that the timing of HISTORY2’s launch in 2020 was unlucky because of the economic downturn in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the TV advertising market. As a result, Tematik-Kábel and Magyar Telekom, made the difficult decision to stop distributing HISTORY2 from 2021, they will instead concentrate on the main and remaining HISTORY channel.
In the remainder of 2020 and beginning in 2021, HISTORY is treating viewers with more mysteries and historic moments brought to life. Apart from new episodes of Ancient Aliens and The Curse of Oak Island, Warrior’s Way is coming to screens with Roman legionnaires and medieval knights, while Lawrence Fishburne will chase mysteries like Roswell and the murder of Abraham Lincoln.
According to CRT Hungary’s non-representative research from May this year, subscribers from other providers demanded the channel too. Among DIGI subscribers, 1 out of every 11 polled subscribers wanted H2 added onto the platform, while at UPC Direct every 1 out of every 6 or 7 subscribers in our poll has missed H2 from their channel lineup.
